DAY 1 - UK - Bucharest

Arrival at Bucharest airport where you will meet your guide at the information desk and then transferred to your hotel. After settling in, your guide will meet you at the hotel reception and accompany you to a local restaurant / hotel restaurant for dinner.

DAY 2 - Curtea de Arges & Sibiu

After breakfast, you will depart for your journey to Curtea de Arges, the former capital of Wallachia. Today lunch will be en route. In Curtea de Arges you will be able to visit the Episcopal Church where the Romanian Kings are buried. Continue on a drive along the picturesque Olt Valley to Sibiu, one of the oldest cities in Transylvania and formerly known as Hermannstadt, which was founded by the Saxon colonists. Enjoy a guided walking tour of the medieval town taking in the key sites: the Main Square, the Evangelical Church and the Liars’ Bridge. Journey on to Sibiel: the village awarded the Pomme d’Or prize by FIJET. There is also the opportunity to visit the Museum of Icons. Experience authentic village life with dinner and an overnight stay at guest house.

DAY 3 - Sighisoara & Targu Mures

This morning travel to Sighisoara, birthplace of Vlad the Impaler. En route, visit the fortified Church in Biertan. Discover the medieval Citadel of Sighisoara, a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as the Clock Tower, the Church on the Hill and the covered stairways. Enjoy lunch at the House of Dracula restaurant. After lunch continue your journey to Targu Mures, where you can discover the elegant city centre by foot. Targu Mures is well known for its architecture: the Palace of Culture, the Orthodox Churches, the Teleki-Bolyai Library are some key highlights to look out for. You will then be transferred to Bistrita for a tour of the impressive gothic cathedral: where Jonathan Harker, Bram Stoker’s hero, spent the night before arriving at Dracula’s Castle. Enjoy dinner and one night’s stay in a centrally located hotel. After dinner there is an optional night-time walking tour that you may wish to join.

DAY 4 - Bucovina

Today you will journey to Bucovina, the land of unique painted monasteries, crossing the “Land of Dracula” as depicted in Bram Stocker’s “Dracula”. Continue to Campulung Moldovenesc for a tour of the Wooden Museum. Enjoy a traditional lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch, visit the Moldovita and Sucevita Monasteries; witness highly prized medieval Moldavian art and soak up the artisanal atmosphere in Marginea village which is famed for its black pottery. Tonight you will be transferred to Gura Humorului for dinner and an overnight stay.

DAY 5 - Voronet Monastery

Today begins with a visit to the Voronet Monastery, also known as the Sistine Chapel of the East, and continues with a drive through the Moldavian villages. You will stop at the village of Tarpesti, the home to the delightful Neculai Popa Museum, where colourful masks and folk costumes are displayed. Your journey will continue to the Secu monstery, with its unique fortified entrance and classical elements of Moldavian and Wallachian architecture, typical of the style of all Moldavian churches. Enjoy lunch at the monastery with wine and the traditional drink, Tuica. After lunch your journey continues with visit to Agapia Monastery: the most famed monastic complex. This is followed by a drive along the Bicaz Lake, and its impressive dam, to admire the scenic view. You will then cross the Bicaz Gorge, on foot if weather is fine, and continue to the Lacu Rosu resort for a tour and fantastic photo opportunity. Tonight will be spent at either Lacu Rosu or Miercurea Ciuc.

DAY 6 - Brasov Fortified Church & Transylvania

This morning your will travel to Brasov via Prejmer for a tour of the fortified church; a UNESCO World Heritage site. Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant before driving on to Bran for a tour of the famous medieval fortified castle: Dracula’s castle. Prince Vlad used the Castle as a general headquarters during his invasions in Transylvania. The castle now fulfils the function of being a thoroughly inspiring venue for a medieval art museum. You will continue to Brasov, formerly known as Kronstadt and founded by the Saxon colonists, for a walking tour through the old town centre. Some of the key highlights include: the Black Church, the Council Square, the Hirche House and many baroque style buildings from the Austro-Hungarian era. Tonight you will stay in Brasov.

DAY 7 - Carpathians & Sinaia

Today begins with the crossing of the Carpathians toward Sinaia, one of the most beautiful mountain ranges, also known as “the pearl of the Carpathians”. Enjoy a tour of the famous Peles Castle, an exquisite piece of architecture, with its famed art and armoury collections. The Castle once served as the summer residence of the Romanian Royal family and that aristocratic heritage is evident throughout. Today’s lunch will be locally sourced. Continue to Bucharest for a panoramic tour of the city of contrasts; with its large boulevards and magnificent buildings such as the Romanian Athenaeum and the Patriarchal Church. Embark on a tour of the House of Parliament, the second largest building in the world, with its unique marble decorations and wooden sculptures. Revel in the conviviality of Bucharest with a farewell dinner in a lovely brasserie.

DAY 8 - Departure

After breakfast, depending on your departure flight, you will have time at leisure. You will then be transferred to the airport in time for your return flight.
