ITINERARY

DAY 1

Arrival at Otopeni (OTP) Airport in Bucharest where you will be greeted by an English speaking guide. Transfer to Ramnicu Valcea. Visit on the way the Curtea de Arges Church, a monument built between 1512 and 1517 by Negru Voda, which has become the resting place of Romania’s kings. The visit will be completed by a session of sketches.  Arrival and check-in in Ramnicu Valcea.

DAY 2

Visit to Oltenia’s largest monastery complex: Horezu Monastery founded by Constantin Brancoveanu, one of the most famous rulers in Romanian history, designer of a unique architectonic style. Stop for sketches. Continuation through Brancusi’s land and visit to Targu Jiu, which holds the most important collection of its works among which we find, Brancusi’s Table of Silence, the Column of Infinite and the Kissing Gate. The sculptures are unique and deserve a few hours of your time to capture their beauty in drawings. Lunch on the way. Afternoon departure to Drobeta Turnu Severin, where you can admire the Bridge built by Apollodor of Damask between 103 and 105, in order to facilitate the safe passage of Roman troupes; discover the great Iron Gates Dam. Leave for Ramnicu Valcea for a dinner and a rest.

DAY 3

Departure to Sibiu on the impressive Olt valley. Visit to Cozia Monastery, built in the 16th century by Mircea cel Batran, an important Romanian historical figure. Stop for sketches.

Arrival in Sibiu where you will discover on foot the historical centre of the town, with its catholic and evangelic churches, stop on the Bridge of Lies to admire Haller House, a monument in gothic style and the Counsel Tower, which shade the History Museum. Lunch in Sibiel and visit to the Museum of Glass Painted Icons. Departure for Ramnicu Valcea, where you will dine and stay the night.

DAY 4

Adventure in Barsa Country across the Rucar-Bran pass. Stop at Castle Bran, the Brasov’s border and defence point and the inspirational pool for Bram Stoker’s Dracula character. Lunch on the way. Arrival in Brasov where you will discover on foot the Black Church, Hircher House, and Rope Street. The walk will finish with a drawing session. Return to Ramnicu Valcea for dinner.

DAY 5

Departure in the morning for Targoviste, ancient capital of Wallachia between 1385 and 1559, to visit Stelea Monastery built by the great Moldavian ruler Vasile Lupu. The heart of the church was founded in 1580 by Petru Cercel and refurbished by Constantin Brancoveanu in 1698. Stop for drawings. Lunch on the way. Afternoon return to Ramnicu Valcea for dinner and accommodation.

DAY 6

Transfer from Ramnicu Valcea to Bucharest Airport.
