Winter at Count Kalnoky:

During the winter months the Counts estate in the village of Miklósvár is transformed in to a winter wonderland. Abundant amounts of snow fall turning the village in to a picturesque setting for a winter retreat.
Your days can be spent at the Kalnokys estate taking part in daily activities including horse drawn sleigh rides (equipped with fur blankets to keep you warm) around the estate and village. You can head in to the surrounding woodland with a wildlife guide who will help you to track wildlife by tracing their movements in the snow, Wolves bears and lynx are just some of the tracks you might be lucky enough to find.
If you are an experienced skier or have always wanted to give it a try this can also be organised, either in Poiana Brasov or cross country around Count Kalnoky’s estate. If this however is not you cup of tea and you would rather head out of the village and see some cultural sites located near by then this is not a problem, vehicles specially modified to copewith the snow conditions will be available to take you on such trips.
In the evening you will be able to share your daily experiences with the other guests around the dinner table in the old wine cellar whilst enjoying a traditional meal washed down with some good wine. There are other rooms for the guests use, a billiard room & drawing room, here you can taste Pálinka (the local brandy), whilst relaxing in an arm chair by the fire.
The guesthouses where you will stay are furnished with Romanian antiques in the Transylvanian Szekler and Saxon style. We want all guests have a warm and relaxing stay, we use the traditional heating system (wood stoves). The bathrooms are luxuriously decorated and equipped. The guests may also use the Sauna room and billiard room. The Guesthouses welcome children; they are suitable for all ages.
Travel to a land that time forgot and stay as the guest of Count Kalnoky, a true Transylvanian Count.
The Kálnokys are one of the most ancient families of Transylvania, their history reaching back to medieval times. In 1252 AD the family was documented in this eastern part of Transylvania. The main family residences were/are Kõröspatak (family residence) and Miklósvár (hunting manor). The current 25th generation has now returned after 50 years of exile in the West and are reshaping their lost heritage.
Count Kalnoky now invites you to enjoy this unspoilt and beautiful area of Romania as his family have done for many generations. You will stay in Miklósvár (Micloşoara), a remote village situated in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, in guesthouses, from here you will experience traditional food and culture and explore Transylvania, past and present.
