Day 1: BUCHAREST
Arrival at Bucharest airport in the afternoon. Welcome by our local guide. Transfer by private air-conditioned bus to a 4-star hotel in the city centre. Check-in. Around 18:00 light snacks in the hotel restaurant, then transfer to the concert hall. 19:30: Concert. (22:00: Concert). Return to the hotel for dinner. (If the group attends the 22:00 concert, the dinner will be served before the concert (so no light snacks at 18:00). Overnight.
Day 2: BUCHAREST
Full day in Bucharest. half-day panoramic sightseeing tour of Bucharest and visit to the Village Museum (an outdoor display of genuine farmers’ houses, wooden churches and windmills open since 1936). Lunch free. Afternoon visit to the National Art Museum (in the Royal Palace). 19:30: Concert. Return to the hotel for dinner. Overnight.
Day 3: BUCHAREST
In the morning half-day visit to the Cotroceni Medieval Arts Museum and the Parliament Palace (the 2nd largest building in the world). Lunch free. Afternoon free. 19:30: Concert. Return to the hotel for dinner. Overnight.
Day 4: BUCHAREST – IASI (393 km)
After breakfast departure by bus on the route Focsani – Bacau (stop for lunch) – Iasi.City tour upon arrival in Iasi. Dinner and overnight - Traian Hotel****.
Day 5: IASI – GURA HUMORULUI (135 km)
In the morning visit of Iasi – the elegant former capital of Moldavia: The Palace of Culture, the Metropolitan Church, the Three Hierarchs Church etc. Lunch in a typical restaurant in Iasi. Afternoon departure for Bucovina – the picturesque area of northern Moldavia. Dinner and overnight in Gura Humorului – Best Western Bucovina Hotel****.
Day 6: TOUR OF THE PAINTED MONASTERIES (160 km)
Full day tour of the famous painted monasteries of Bucovina on the itinerary Vama – Moldovita monastery – Sucevita monastery (lunch in a guesthouse in Sucevita) – Voronet monastery (the “Sistine Chapel of the East”). Return to the Best Western Bucovina Hotel**** for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: GURA HUMORULUI – MIERCUREA CIUC (262 km)
Departure southwards to Transylvania across the Carpathian mountains. Visit the Agapia monastery and its carpet and icon workshops. Lunch in Piatra Neamt. Drive on and short walk in the spectacular Bicaz gorges and stop at the Red Lake. Dinner (Hungarian cuisine) and overnight in Miercurea Ciuc at the Fenyo Hotel***.
Day 8: MIERCUREA CIUC – POIANA BRASOV (116 km)
Morning drive from Miercurea Ciuc to Brasov (103 km). Stop en route to visit the Prejmer (Tartlau) fortified church. Arrival in Brasov (formerly Kronstadt – a city founded by Saxon colonists) – panoramic city tour and guided walking tour through the medieval town center (including a visit to the Black Church). Drive to Poiana Brasov (a resort 13 km from the city, at 1,030 m altitude). Dinner in a typical restaurant. Accommodation in a 4-star hotel.
Day 9: POIANA BRASOV – BUCHAREST (185 km)
In the morning drive to Sinaia in the Carpathian mountains (56 km) and visit to Sinaia monastery (1695) and the fabulous Peles Castle (former summer residence of the Royal family). Lunch in a local restaurant in Sinaia. Afternoon drive to Bucharest (127 km). Check-in at a 4-star hotel in the city centre. 19:30: Concert.
After the concert farewell dinner in a good local restaurant. Overnight.
Day 10: BUCHAREST
Morning at leisure. Around noon transfer to the airport for the homebound flight.
NOTE: Museums in Romania are closed on Mondays. The Peles Castle in Sinaia and the National Arts Museum in Bucharest are also closed on Tuesdays.
Churches and monasteries are open all days. However, the visitors’ access in the Black Church in Brasov is restricted on Sundays.
